Angela Hallstrom, MA, AMFT (she/her)

Professional Highlights:

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Utah Valley University (2025), working toward full licensure in 2027. Before becoming a therapist, I earned a master’s degree in creative writing from Hamline University (2005) and spent many years as a writer, editor, and teacher of university and high school students. That earlier work continues to shape how I practice therapy: I believe each of us has a story worth exploring, and that we make room for greater meaning and purpose in our lives by claiming agency in our own narrative. I am supervised by Dr. Marty Erickson, LMFT.

Specialties:

I enjoy working with adult individuals, couples, and families, and seek to provide a safe, supportive, and affirming space for healing and change. In my work with individuals, I draw from EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (parts work) to help people process difficult experiences, learn new ways to manage anxiety and depression, and build a life aligned with their values. With couples and families, I use systemic and attachment-based methods to strengthen connection, disrupt unhelpful patterns, and foster healthy communication. With all those who consult me, I find value in exploring how relationships-both past and present-impact how we feel and the choices we make.

I have a particular interest in trauma and healing, grief and loss, the midlife transition, and questions of identity and meaning. I also have experience working with faith crises/expansions and issues surrounding shame, perfectionism, and emotional expression or regulation. I am developing specialties in counseling mixed-faith couples and families, strengthening relationships between parents and adult children, and providing ketamine integration therapy.

I believe therapy is about more than learning coping skills or solving problems. It can be an opportunity to learn how to live with more authenticity, emotional flexibility, and capacity for connection. I see my role as a compassionate partner in that process, helping you make sense of your experiences and move forward with hope.

Angela has limited openings for in-person in SLC and teletherapy for anyone in Utah
