Professional Highlights
I have a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Utah and an M.S. in Counseling (Marriage & Family Therapy emphasis) from San Diego State University. I completed my clinical training at the Center for Community Counseling & Engagement in City Heights, San Diego, working primarily with LGBTQIA+ teens, adults, and couples. I have been working as a therapist since 2020. I am an Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in UT and expect to complete full licensure in 2024. I am supervised by Dr. Marty Erickson, LMFT.
Specialties
I am a White queer woman with cisgender privilege, an ex-LDS descendant of Swedish, English, and Scottish settlers.
I enjoy working with sexual concerns (I am kink competent and affirming), individuals and couples exploring non-traditional relationships, queer & gender-diverse folks, and people who are navigating major life transitions like faith crises and divorce.
My therapy is informed by queer, feminist, and transformative justice principles and draws on ideas and interventions from Narrative Therapy, EFT, and Gottman Method. I believe that therapy is an interpersonal process and that good therapy helps us to connect- to ourselves, to our values, to our loved ones, and to communities of support.
Lara has a wait list to see people in-person in SLC or anyone in Utah by teletherapy.
